Default Muting Audio on Steering Wheel Early 2022

My 2019 xc60 had the mute button on the steering wheel, but I can’t figure it out in my new 2022. The only thing that comes up when pressing that center o is the trip meter. Is there a way to reprogram this? Volvo is always tuned in to safety and having to reach over to manipulate the touch screen on the center console to the audio source and then clicking the pause button seems far from safe. And why do I need instant access to the trip meter? I need to be able to mute the audio! Can you tell I'm frustrated?

I’m glad I’m not the only one annoyed with the lack of steering wheel control buttons. I have a 2022 late. The car drives and handles like a dream. But the shortcomings with the computer screen, buttons, info., radio, etc. has really surprised and disappointed me. How about a simple back button on the wheel to get to the prior screen. How about some information available instead of just the trip mileage. It is dangerous and distracting to try to reach for and hit small icons on the screen when you’re driving. Maybe all the EVs are going that way. I don’t know, but I think Volvo could have done better.

On my 2021 I can push the big round button under the centre touch screen to mute any audio source (radio, Sirius XM, mp3, etc.)...don't know if that works on the 2022.

You are correct! I thought the big **** just turned everything off, but it does serve to mute if you don’t press too hard. Maybe not in the steering wheel but it should help ebburtis. Thanks! But it’s probably on page 728 or so of the 960 page owners manual. I just haven’t gotten that far yet 😎

It takes longer to say "Ok Google mute audio" than it does to reach over and push the button :-)

Possibly, yet you have to take your hands off the wheel and eyes off the road . OP stated safety was a reason for wanting the button on the wheel

The OP also stated they didn't want to have to fiddle with the screen swiping, etc. to find the mute button. I think every driver should be able to take 1 hand off the wheel for a second or two and also be able to take a quick glance off the road without any problem to push a large button which is easily seen.
