Default Potential new Volvo owner

Good afternoon Volvo enthusiasts!
I am in the market for a compact SUV and was looking for a little advice. Normally a VW/Porsche guy but I have always liked Volvos so in my search I have included the XC60 and possibly XC40.
It would seem the Inscription level is what would have the options I would like. Not looking at new so I am curious how they hold up? There is a 2018 XC60 T8 R-Design locally with 20k on it for just under $46k. I don't see the advantage of the plug-in part except for the extra hp?
I like the 2018 as it has the better dash and screen vs 2017. Any help in finding a good Volvo would be appreciated!

I have a 2019 xc 60 T8. At first I didnt think the short range would work for me,.,....then realized the parking garage by work offers free charging......In perfect conditions and me driving normal..max range is about 25 miles. Work is 20 miles.....So I can make it to work and back on battery!! Most of my weekly errands are all within battery distance. On a 900 mile round trip....I achieved 36 mpg on the way there and that was not taking it easy. and that was calculated by pen/paper....cars computer stated i achieved 39. On the way home, I achieved 32 mpg (computer stated 35) So it still gets very good gas mpg....pretty sure thats much better than a T6. If u were to buy new, there are federal rebates (around $5000) and many states offer them too.

1 issue with the 2018....They say Sensus has a slow start up time...I know on my 2019, its very fast, I pout on my seat-belt, get ready to drive and its ready to go....if backing up..back up camera is available

Ue best bet is to searc h various volvo dealerships and look for a CPO.....and if ur in the USA, 1 of the cheapest places to buy an extended OEM Volvo warranty is https://www.steingold.com/-vip--exte...nty.htm....and lot of info on Swedespeed........ I love my T8....I drive it pretty leisurely, but if I want to get up and go....it goes!!!

Thanks for the response! Good information. Not looking at new as that is way outside my budget. Volvo does make it difficult to deal with if you don't by from them in my area of the US. Not sure about others? So not sure buying a car with this much technology from an independent dealer is a good choice.

I'm in the DC area. I too am leary about independent dealers..guessing they picked it up at auction.

U can search for used at cars.com

Common issues with the 2017-2019 deal with the thermostat....easy fix at dealers. Was a recall for the rear hatcg struts...replaced them....and another for possible missing bolt on the chair. Even if u bought it from an independent dealer....u could buy the warranty from steingolds. They usually have a promo code for more $$$ off....usually it is swedespeed.

I'm a big fan of CPO as you get a fully inspected car, usually with a full history / Carfax and an extended warranty. Volvo has one of the industry best CPO warranties as well with an option to extend. Worth looking into IMHO.
