Default Rear Climate Control

Does anyone have their rear climate control working reliably?
My temps are locked on Celsius, even after changing the setting in the system. They always go back to C after restarting the car.

But my bigger issue is getting the vents to blow enough air in the back. I can't seem to get the blowers to blow on high if the front blowers aren't on high.

Is this a software / control issue? Is it how Volvo thinks it should work? Or is it another thing thats wrong with the car? My wife, in the front, doesn't like the air blowing on her. My kids in the back want it on high. I thought thats what this 4-zone Climate Package was all about. Works in nearly every other car I've ever been in.

There is only one fan motor, one evaporator and one heater core in my 2020 xc60. So you cant make the 2nd row seat vents blow harder than the front row seats. For the 2nd row You can control the left and right temps and there is a fan control - but its only function is to be able to reduce the air flow. That's simply the way the car is designed. Other vehicles (such as a xc90 with three rows) have a separate fan, evaporator and heater core to heat or cool the third row at whatever fan speed you want. Other brands (a minivan and a tahoe) I was in recently have those separate components also for center to rear areas of those bigger cars.

That, unfortunately, is what I thought. Annoying AF. I don't understand how you can have 4 zones and not be able to have the rear vents blow hard when the fronts dont. I don't see how you can maintain a temperature that is a few degrees different than another zone without being able to adjust how hard the blowers work. How do you change the temps in back seats if the front seats are set and the vent is on 1? Very, very slowly, I guess.

That said, the Jeep Grand Cherokee (2 row) functions the way I expected the XC60 to.

The Jeep is a very different car than the Volvo. Its also the size of a XC90. Jeep is 9 inches longer, 4 inches wider several hundred pounds heavier with a huge gas tank and standard 3.6 V6 engine. The supercharged 6.2, 700 Hp edition looks like fun!

It is indeed counter-intuitive. However, the back seats can order high fan, and the front seat passenger may use the mechanical vent damper to reduce the air flow locally. Good news is that air will be reduced and will come at the suitable temperature as ordered by the 4-zone system.
So in this sense the air flow needs double adjustment (electronically and mechanically) in some cases, while temperature is ok via electronic control only.
Not the neatest system TBH.

"Hey Google, close the front vents" working for anyone? /sarc

I'm just disappointed with so many things about this car. But I'm trying to get past them because I also love the car so much. And I'm trying to find some optimism around what the car could be if and when Google gets their act together.
