Hi all, I have a 2018 XC60 T5 Momentum. I got a Start/Stop Service required message the other day. I did a little research and decided to pull the small AUX battery and check the voltage, it was just under 11V. I tried to put a charge on it but the voltage just keeps dropping off. I went ahead and bought a new battery from Volvo and installed it. Do I now need to have the dealership clear the message or will it go away after a bit. I did the install myself to save a few bucks ($200.00 !!) of labor costs. It's a really simple install, It's been so hot out here in northern California that the start stop function is not working anyway, any suggestions are welcome. Thanks
Have you used an OBD2 scanner to see if the fault code can be cleared that way? I've read elsewhere that it may take a few days of normal driving to get the warning to clear but I'd think it can also be cleared with a scan tool. That said, if the light doesn't clear or can't be cleared with a full feature OBD2 tool, it may be the sign of another remaining issue so the dealer may still need to do a diagnostic scan.

No havent done a OBD check, was hoping it'll go off in a couple of days, if not then do an OBD scan. Has anyone verified that OBDll can clear this message? thanks for you reply.
Here's a long thread on swedespeed on the Aux battery topic. Most suggest the warning light went away on its own once the new battery was fully charged.
Quick update, the message is cleared, but the start stop isn't working, go figure. I don't really like it but it should still work. No sure what the next move is going to be, I'll give it a few more days and see what happens.
My daughter just took her 2016 XC60 to a dealer.
We just put a brand new aftermarket Auxiliary battery in it.
the dealer said that only a volvo OEM battery will work.
is this a true statement? And if so why?
thanks
Can you provide a pointer to the battery you installed. I used Autozone batteries in a 2015.5 XC60. Been a year and no issues. I don't see why a 2016 would be any different. See my thread https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...cement-111500/. Make sure you reset the battery age back to 0 so it will charge properly

I just noticed this older post. I'm pretty sure it's a misconception that the AUX battery it what provides power for the start/stop feature. It doesn't. The main battery is used to start the car, even during start/stop. The AUX battery provides power to other key components of the car to keep them working properly while starting. I know when our main battery was getting old an not holding a charge well, we got a warning saying that the start/stop feature was deactivated. If I ran the battery on the trickle charger over night until fully charged, then the warning went away. This happened probably a dozen times as I tried to extend the life of the battery by a year or more. Eventually I replaced both batteries.
If your AUX battery is going bad, you probably also will get some sort of start/stop deactivation warning. I'm just pointing out that replacing the AUX battery may not solve your problems when you get the warning. The issue may be with the main battery, or possibly both.
H7 AGM 94R is what I used for my 2015.5. Yours is probably AGM, but double check to make sure.
tbe dealer told my daughter the airbags would not work correctly because it was aftermarket battery.
thank you!!
I'm no authority on this, but my first reaction to hearing something like that would be total fear tactics. Can you imagine the number of lawsuits Volvo would face if airbags failed to deploy because the wrong battery was installed, but the car otherwise functioned properly?
I couldn't believe this trick worked. Local garage replaced my AUX battery, nothing changed, still was getting low battery warnings, Start/Stop still disabled. After watching the video and following the steps (see attached image for screen grab), EVERYTHING came back! The garage just didn't know to do it. Oh man... this made my day.
Also, how underhanded was this dealer to suggest an aftermarket battery would disable the airbags? Anything that would cause a failure that catastrophic would create a huge liability that would be very Un-Volvo.
Steps to reset Start/Stop after replacing AUX12 battery.
