start/stop issues
I've been driving my 2020 XC60 in auto start/stop mode (in comfort mode) since we bought it - 2+ years - without issue. It has begun to NOT restart automatically, at first I thought it was a fluke but has happened a few times recently at red lights or in traffic. It takes SEVERAL tries to restart by putting it into park, sitting on the brake and successively turning the **** on and off until the engine finally turns over. This is stressful to say the least and I have turned off the start/stop feature until I can get it into the shop.
Maybe related or not, twice we have had problems starting up the car from it being off. The engine would not turn over but the car had no alerts and otherwise acted like it was on. It eventually started when we turned the car entirely off, locked the doors, and left it alone for 10ish minutes and tried again.
Anyone else experience these issues? Would like to have some background as the service advisor I just spoke to was unfamiliar with what I am describing. Thanks!

Yes I’ve had the exact same issues. Most concerning is not being able to save to profile disabling the start/stop function after the shop was unable to recreate the issues we were having and just threw their hands up in the air and sent us on our way!
The start/stop function fails to start the car on occasion, and produced the error message that the engine has failed. It takes ages to brake, put in Park and turn the **** a few times to get the ignition going again. Like you say - very stressful - people waiting in traffic behind you have no idea your 2-year old car is having troubles.
It’s negligent of Volvo that they’re unwilling to get to the bottom of the matter.

No problems since.
Surely the error should be logged with Volvo global now to reduce how long it takes to identify and rectify the problem.
ok so we had another situation which was dangerous. The shop ended up taking the car for a week. When the issue happened several times for them they ended up pinpointing it to a faulty starter motor and replaced it.

I agree! Volvo’s is advertised as the utmost in safety. I was just stranded in a very busy intersection by an auto start failure. My battery was replaced less than a month ago and still had failure to start while idle start stop feature stopped the car and would not restart! Also, hazard lights failed to work and in the darkness people were not warned that my car was stopped putting me at risk of being rear ended. Terrifying really, I thought these cars were designed to be safe!
