USB Music
If I put a bunch of MP3 files on a USB flash drive with a type C connector can I play them in my 2023 XC60? If so, would I need to install a special app?
I don't yet have a Type C USB flash drive and don't want to buy one if it won't work.

unless things have changed I downloaded this app but it didn’t work. The app creator mentioned in a post that Volvo disabled a function which prohibited this from working.
One odd thing. When I plugged the USB-C into the socket I got an error message saying the format wasn't supported. Clicking on OK immediately brought up the app anyway. I noticed the drive had some strange stuff installed on it. I will try reformatting the drive to see if it eliminates that extraneous error message. Perhaps that will work for you.
Had you noticed that only one of the USB sockets claims to be able to play music? It's the socket outlined in white.

About reformatting:
Audio Wagon says it supports FAT32 but my USB drive was too big for FAT32. Windows 11 offered exFAT as an option but reformatting to that didn't do the trick. The car STILL could not mount it properly and even worse the app would not play from it. I should have checked more carefully on just what the factory format of the USB was! (Probably something made to look like FAT32 to anything that needed it.)
I was able to use Win 11's disk management tools to create a 32GB partition that I could format to FAT32 and it worked fine that way. Still gets an error when plugging it in and still plays MP3 files.
So bottom line: It may (or may not) take some fiddling. I suspect if you plug in a 32 GB, Fat32, flash drive it will work straight away
OK, got the 32GB USB-C drive. It came formatted FAT32 so the Audio Wagon app was able to play from it w/o any re-formatting. The Car still reported the USB as an unsupported format but (as before) it let me open it in Audio Wagon anyway.

I previously owned a '21 XC60 that included USB playback in the infotainment. Traded for a '25 XC60 this week and that feature is no longer available. Used a USB C adapter with my USB but have not been able to play music. I would guess most mfgs. today have gone to a similar format as Volvo. Would appreciate advice on how to get my USB to play on this newer system etc.
That's great! 👍
