Unfortunately (and I can't figure why it wouldn't) the oil service information doesn't appear in the owner's manual?
But with a little research I found the following![Smile](https://volvoforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
This appears in the owners manual.
"Engine oil specifications Engine oil of type VCC RBS0-2AE 0W-20 must be used. Lower oil grades may not offer the same fuel economy, engine performance or engine protection. Volvo recommends: General See the Service and warranty booklet for information about oil change intervals. "
This appears ion the VOLVO site under "Volvo Increased Portection PLanso Increased Protection Plans
"PICK THE RIGHT PLAN FOR YOU • Choose between 3, 5 or 7 oil services. • Available on all Volvo vehicles 2015 and older includes oil, filter and gasket replacement, key protection and multi-point vehicle inspection on 7,500 and 10,000 mile maintenance intervals:

Generally speaking, new cars are shipping with fully synthetic oil which is thinner than what you put in your mom's Buick. Engines are also built to tighter specs so there's less blow-by etc to contaminate the oil over time. Additionally the lack of a published interval is probably due to the fact that the car's computer will calculate when the oil should be changed based on driving style etc. Not uncommon to see the service reminder appear after 10K miles. As noted by others, this should be covered in the owners manual, but you always have the option of calling your dealer for advise.

Full synthetic oil comes in grades just like organic oil. OW20 has the same viscosity whether it is organic or synthetic. The car's computer does not do any analysis of oil to determine when hot needs to be changed nor is it based on driving style. The alerts are based on time or mileage.

My manual says every 10,000 miles which I feel is to long. Oil is cheap compared to stuck valves and leaking piston rings. Once my service warranty is ended, I will change to every 5,000 mi. I just sold and traded two vehicles with over a 100,000 miles and I always changed the oil sooner than later.

Just an FYI. Had the 2014 XC60 T6 AW in for it's 80K service and noticed that on the reminder sticker they put on the driver side front windshield that it states next oil change is after the next 5K mileage post. Being the original owner and always having all our service done at the same dealer they have always posted a 10K change. I trust them and truly believe they are ethical and honest about their service charges (yes their are dealers out there like this and I do my research before I have any work done) and I don't think this is just a change to kick up the revenue! I'm going to call the service manager Monday to ask why the change and see if they provide any insight? I'll update with the answer. Also just turned in our 2018 leased XC90 T6 AW Momentum for a 2021 lease on an XC90 T6 AW Momentum and I believe the oil change intervals were also every 10K on the 2018. I always challenged the intervals since I'm old school and felt 5K was the standard! Sorry for the long Thread![Smile](https://volvoforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

When I boight my 2010 XC60, the dealer told me that oil change should be done every 5000 miles intead of 7500 stated in the manual. I asked Volvo customer support, and they said "No, that's incorrect. 7500 mile is good enough to keep the engine healthy". So I always followed this instruction, just stick with full synthetic and then high mileage after it reached 75000 miles.
Unless you are streching the engine, it should be safe to follow the manual.
