I have a 1994 850 with over 150K miles. I've been told that Volvos only need an oil change avery 5K miles... Do you need to do it more often if the car is older or has a lot of miles? I use 10-30 Synth blend.

I would keep replacing it every 5k it is better to be safe then sorry

 

I was just wondering if I should replace it sooner than 5K... The shop that did the oil change put a sticker indicating 3 months for the next oil change. I drive about 20 miles a day. At that rate, I wouldn't need an oil change for a year. 100 miles/week 52 weeks/year (100 * 52 = 5.2K).

 

I do both of mine every 3K.

 

Does the service indicator come on every 5000?

 

Yes it does on the older cars. The newer ones(99 and up) come on every 7,500.
But IMO that is way to long.
I have seen to many slugged motors.

 

People neglect the 7500 interval and use conventional oil, I know we use it in bulk now, uh oh.
