Default Transmission Oil

Hi, I Changed my transmission oil 20,000 KM ago, and putted Castrol with lucus oil. I rarely feels jerk while engine/transmission hot...I want to change the oil now...but as per my last experience when I dropped the pan and lost the transmission............I do not want to change oil completely.

my question is can I top up or change 3 or 4 liters with Merc or Volvo same specified oil ?

Yes, because they get over heated early and I believe for our weather there should be only Merc or Volvo Oil. I have seen here 65 C at one time...... so you guess.

Is your vehicle fitted with the GM transmission or the AW alternative?
The type of ATF fluid requred is different for each.
The AW (Aisin Warner's) use 3309 spec fluid.

see attached link re GM transmissions. class action settleement. for your info'

Just do a simple and gentle 'drain and fill' procedure.
Drain out approx 3.5 quarts via plug and replace via dipstick tube with funnel same amount of fresh ATF. DEX III
Run it for about a week or so and then repeat procedure again. Should look clean like new.
If it looks a good clean color after the first cycle after some running you may be able to leave the 2nd cycle especially as you have only done 20k on the existing.

A third cycle should only be needed if the fluid is still appearing significantly discoloured and is most unlikely.
