I have a 2021 XC60, we live in NJ. I am getting a "wiper failure requires service" message when I try to use the front wipers. They do not turn on. The car was parked at airport parking during the winter storm that dropped 20" of snow in the NY/NJ area. I used a parking service the parks and delivers your car for you. The driver told me the wiper didn't work. I can only assume he turned them on when they were frozen in ice. Now if i manual pull the wipers up the windshield, and it not easy to pull but not very hard either you can tell its still connected to the motor, because after i pull them up, when i attempt to turn them on, the motor will pull them back down under the hood. So it appears the motor and mechanisms are all still connected and working. I purchased the ANCEL VOD700 to try and clear the code (B1D3896 what the reader gets), desperately hoping this would be an easy fix but no luck, code comes back. I have not dug deeper into it or try to disassemble any components yet, but i plan to soon, when the weather gets warmer, its 3 degree here today.
I was hoping to get some input from anyone who may have gone through this before. I called the dealer and they told me its $1000 for a new motor.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
thank you,
Joe
