Xc60 drivetrain
I have a 2011 xc60 3.2 with 180000 km on it. About 2 years ago the rear differential started making noises and had to be replaced, not cheap. A few months ago the prop shaft failed and was taken off until I find a replacement part. Carrier bearing failing and can't be rebuilt locally. A few days ago the transmission started making a noise and is definitely a problem. Not impresses with this at all. We bought this car a few years ago with hopes on having a reliable used car. Could I get some feedback on this? How common would this type of problem be?

where are you located? The drive shaft bearing seems readily available at most suppliers in the US so I take it you have issues sourcing in your local area? As to transmission noises, did the gear oil drain out of the transfer case (aka bevel gear) when you pulled the drive shaft out? What does the noise sound like? does it change with engine speed, road speed, turning at low speeds?
The place I took the driveshaft too said the carrier bearing was not made to be taken off and he saw no way to replace it. The transmission is making a slight noise and appears to be dragging. Didn't try it at any speed. Waiting to get it into a shop for someone to have a look at it.
I live on the eastern end of Newfoundland. A great place to live but not the best for this kind of service.
