Default 2001 v70 xc engine interchange

Anyone know if an engine from 98 v70 would work in a 01 v70 xc? Thinking of a project of a 01 xc with bad motor and v70 donor car with good motor. Wiring harness/ecu/trans? Don't care if it stays awd.

Im not sure if it would work.
If the donor car was a 99 then it should.

The 98 is a Non VVT motor and the 01 is a VVT motor. That would cause the check engine light to stay on all the time and im not sure of the affect it will have on it running.

I have heard of folks swapping 99 and up motors, but nothing earlier than 99. As Tech said, the main difference is VVT vs non-VVT
