Default 740 engine interchange

I have a 90 740 twin overhead cam wagon that is really clean and nice with a bad engine. I also have a beautiful running and driving 87 240 (both automatics) but is getting rusty. Does anyone know if I can transplant the 240 engine into the 740 and have the wiring, computer, etc, still be right, or at least easily altered to accomodate the 240 engine?

Thanks in advance for all ideas and help! Jim Dworschack

If you look you will see the distributors are in different locations. The 740 is on the back of the head and the 240 has it on the side of the engine. They are pretty much the same engines though. I do not know if the 740's computer will run offf of the 240's distributor. you could switch the head if your 740's cylinder head is still good. Or you could just buy a 740 engine reasonably off of

www.car-part.com

Go to the bottom of the page and click on the page with the asterisk * this will show you what the lowest price is for one, then you can click on the right column dist and you can find the closest lowest priced engine.

You could install the 240 motor with no problems but you would also have to transfer the engine module as well.
The 16V (twin overhead cam engine is a little different)
