2009 XC70 Overheating
My wife and I are proud new owners of our first Volvo, and she's a beauty. Unfortunately we just hit 4224 miles and after just a 4.2 mile drive from a cold start the got a message on the dash stating "Engine Coolant Low" "Please stop vehicle Safely" or "Do not Start Engine" I cant recall the exact message, but (800) 63-Volvo said it was a message that required the vehicle to be towed to nearest dealer for service.
Now "Engine coolant low" is not a big deal, after a hot summer some could have burnt off or what have you, but the fact that the car actually overheated and coolant bubbled from the overflow reservoir is a bit unsettling to me. I am glad the car has technology to warn the driver before any engine damage occurs, but after getting the car back from the dealer today only to be told that it needed engine coolant, and that low engine coolant was the reason for the message, the service coordinator could not give me a clear reason for the overheat except that it was low on coolant, when asked how low it had to be he said just below the sensor. Now just below the sensor shooting a warning to the dash is makes sense, but just below the sensor casing a cold car to overheat in less then 5 miles is a little hard for me to accept.
Anyway, I am just wondering if anyone on the forum has heard of or encountered a similar problem with their 2009 XC70 or other Volvo Models.
Tx In Advance,
Dave
