2010 XC70 heater blower replacement
I have a new to me 2010 XC70. The AC worked great on a 300 mile trip home, but now the heat blower has stopped working altogether. I jumpered the blower resistor plug and still no fan at all. So I’m taking on replacing the HVAC blower. I’m stuck on how to get the damper unit out. Everything I read says just twist slightly counterclockwise and work it out. I’ve removed the three screws but still can’t get it to budge. Any tips? Thanks!
Well, I looked at the damper unit again and found I had removed three screws, but one was not a mounting screw. I found a shiny screw on top of the unit toward the front. I removed it using a mirror on a telescoping handle like a dentist. After that the damper twisted off easy. As for the blower removal, what a bear. I bought the blower removal tool but that just pulled the fan and blower motor out, leaving the blower housing still mounted. Try as I may, it would not rotate out. I ended up cracking the housing through the instrument cluster hole with a long breaker bar and a hammer. It came out in some small pieces and then I was able to rotate the remaking housing free.
