Default '98 loses power at stop or low speed

have a 98 v70 xc - on 3 seperate occassions in the past month (152K miles) after driving about 15-20 miles when I come to a stop light the car will have the lights on the left side of the dash come on and will lose power - I can not put my foot on the gas and get it to go. I have had it in the shop and they can find no codes in the system. If I stop, put it into park, turn off the car and restart I can drive it again to the nex stop light where it may or may not repeat itself. I know the fuel pump was replaced. I have also noticed that my car seems to be running hot recently - we have moved from highway to city driving in the past 3 months. Any ideas?

Default charging system?

Are you referring to the "cigarette lighters"? If so, then no when I plug in my cell phone charger it doesn't work. I just figured it was my charger.

No I mean the Alternator is it charging at atleast 13.75 volts. I was wondering if after a long drive the alternator voltage goes down till the computers have a fit.

I don't know about the alternator. Can I ask a mechanic to check on that? Thanks for your help ... I'm a stay at home Mom with a husband in the military and don't really want to spend tons of $$ on diagnostics when someone else might have had the same experience, so I appreciate your assistance.

You yourself can check it. Buy a cheap digital voltage meter.
Depending on where you live you might have a place near you called Harbor Freight. You can get one for about $4.00. Then I can explain how to check it from there.
