I have a 1999 V70XC and recently got check engine lite. Code was 420 cat efficiency below threshold. I guess I need a new one. Am I right? If so I price out part at @ $1000. Recently "Tech" and a few others were able to put me onto a cheap reliable ABS repair site. Anyone know of after market site for catalytic converters? Volvo part # is 8603001-2 suppose to be 3 in 1 cat converter setup. Thanks for help in advance. Enjoy reading the info on this site.

 

I would first clear the code and see if it comes back. It could have just been a hiccup. Any decent muffler shop should be able to recommend a replacement converter

 

I second Psaboic there-definelty clear the codes first and see if it comes back-I've seen plenty of "hiccups" with the check engine lights wanting big jobs done.

 

Also the injectors go bad and throw a cat converter code.
