Default codes po717,p1618

hey guys, my wife was driving home from work and all of a sudden service engine soon light came on as well as service transmission immediately as well as a clunk happend. I have a scan tool and came up with codes, po717 which says input speed turbine error, p01618, says unreadable however i think code 1618 is a ecm error code that pops up when there is a system error, in this case the tranny system, also code po128-coolant sensor.
please let me know which sensors these are, i am really hoping the tranny sensor is external.
also now when you step on brake you can feel something on shifter handle, which must be main shaft slowing down or something.

it just happend this afternoon, so i cleared them, drove about 1.5 miles and it happend again, went into like a safety mode and stayed in 3rd or 4th gear, came to stop, when to start and could tell it was in high gear so i eased into it so i did not heat up or slip tranny, car has been trouble free for 45k miles, only had to do sway bar ends and tires,.

no, no other lights, however when going from park to drive, i usually step on brake while i have hand on shifter, when you apply brake, you can feel a surge or something in the shift handle, like someone is under the car and taped shifter with hammer, however it is cable shifter so something inside tranny is slowing down or something, which maybe it is related to abs.
but no no other lights are on in car, and nothing weird was gong on when it happend, just going 35 thru town, she said it clunked when it happend.
would the code-p1618 be linked to the po717 code?
and which coolant sensor would kick the code-po128? the coolant code was there before this, i reset it once and it came back 1 week later.
is this gonna be internal?

What you feel should be the shiftlock soleniod.

The code I would check the wiring under the hood.
I would have to see the code in Volvo form to help more thats all I use at work.

code listing is turbine input speed sensor??
so i gotta tow this thing 50 miles to dealer and pay 100 bucks to trouble shoot, look slike i am going back to gm cars for the wife,
i looked at tranny pretty good, did not see any problems etc, however she did say the motor started running warmer like mid way on temp gauge where it usually runs 1/4 to 3/8

The temp gauge should run half way up at all times.
There is a speed sensor outside the tranny it should be on the top of the tranny.

where is the shift lock solenoid? or am i feeling that because the input speed is bad? can i clean the sensor?

so which sensor would the input turbine speed sensor be?
or which sensor would you try? or shoul di bring it to volvo and pay 90 bucks to scan it?
what are the chances this could be something internal sensor wise and cost a bucket load?

Sadily I can't help to much more.
We usually don't see these problems to much.
I think 16 is the input sensor
28 is the tach and 15 is the vehicle speed sensor.
Maybe check locally and see if a tranny shop might be able to diag it for cheaper.

The Dealers will usually only sell a tranny.

They won't rebuild them either.

the dealer won't be fixing it just diagnosing it. is there any aftermarket sensors for the car? foreign autopart or or something? i may just have volvo scan it, i have an enclosed trailer so i can get it there but it sucks driving 45 miles each way for diagnosis.
also i doubt its a clutch or valve body problem, more then likely a sensor or solenoid or something, but with that said i hope i can fix it once its diagnosed.

If I knew what the Volvo code was for it I could send you the Diag for the code.(Fault tracing info)
Then you might be able to track it down yourself.
These are all I can find for input sensor see if they help.

Jake
Watch out for this, have a volvo dealer or a volvo specialist check your codes, clear them and then look at which software downloads have been done
my volvo was acting up (an 01, with 115K,) thumping tranny after stopping, then the check engine light also came on.
I did not have to do any tranny repairs or solenoid repairs to this point,
However the repairs that fixed the bumping were in the CEM module ( a new one was required) and software upgrades for the transmission (ETC i believe)

thanks guys, it was a speed sensor, dealer is charging 335 for parts and labor, does this sound right, thought about doing it myself but its a 1.25 hr drive and i would need to trailer it back to avoid further tranny problems by the time i did that its would cost me half plus my time. they said they updated some throttle code too.
