D.I.Y. timing belt replacement 2004
Greetings, I am interested in changing the timing belt on my 2004 xc70. I have 90,000 miles and it has to be close to time to do so. Just got quoted $900.00 for parts & labor. Probably not bad, but money is tight...
I have not worked on this car, but have experience in building overhead cam motorcycle engines & several small block chevy engines. My tools set is fairly complete with the exeption of anything specific to the volvo. I would appreciate feedback and or warnings on this. thanks in advance.

It isn't all that bad. There is many posts on here where people have done the job.
You will be fine if you mark the cam pulleys before removing the belt.

I agree, it is not bad at all. I have done it to our XC70 and it took me about three hours, but I also changed the tensioner, pulleys, and the serpentine belt and tensioner at the same time. If you do a search there is a good write up on how to do it on this site, as well as matthewsvolvosite and bay 13
eeuroparts.com also rents a cam timing tool for use when doing the timing belt for $55...
