Electronic compass malfunctioning

The electronic compass that is incorporated into the rear-view mirror is malfunctioning.
It always indicates north or northwest.
Is there a quick fix for this without having to go to the mechanic?

If you have an owners manual, there may be a reset or calibration procedure that will get it working again.
