malfunctioning switches
I have several problems that may or may not be related.
1. The radio has quit working. It shows "OFF" when I turn it on.
2. The power sunroof works sporadically
3. The rear window defroster has quit working.
4.The power locks will lock but not unlock.
5. The SRS light stays on.
#'s 2,3,4 &5 started about the time I hit a massive pothole about 2 weeks ago.
#1 I have had trouble with on & off since I bought the car 9 month's ago. It seems to go out in cold weather.????
Thanks in advance

RE: malfunctioning switches
Hello Rod,
The all 5 troubles you've noted are electrical systems, have you checked loose fuses/battery/alternator connections? Check the fuses in the engine compartment to see if there are some fuses that are not securely installed.
Also, if your 850 has the original alternator and has never been replaced, I would replace it immediately with a new/rebuilt Bosch alternator. It's about $230 with core charge, a bit pricy but better than getting stranded (it happened to me) and paying for towing.
As for the radio, it has codes and every time the battery is disconnected, the 4-digit code has to be entered. The code should be on the radio unit, just press the narrow tabs on the front lower part of the radio with something like a quarter and the tabs should pop out, so you can pull out the radio. If you cannot find the 4-digit codes on the radio, the dealer should be able to tell you.
Good luck,
JPN

RE: malfunctioning switches
hey Rodsglt, since i myself have recently bought an 850 series this past year, i dont really now enough to answer #'s 2-5. As for the radio, JPN mentioned the codes located on the radio somewhere. I discovered my codes in the manual that comes (or should come) with the car. The code for me was located on one of the pages that dealt with instructions on how to use the radio. Another thing to keep in mind: the ignition has to be turned to II (battery ON, engine OFF) for roughly two hours at one time in order to make the oFF display go away. Hope this helps you in a way
