Engine serial number
I just bought a 2007 XC70. The number on the tag on the timing cover says, 3972954. Is that my engine serial number?I want order a timing belt kit and the engine change number is at 3188389. that must have been long before mine.....what year did the change happen?
Well, hopefully that Number I got off the tag is in fact the engine serial number. I ordered my timing belt based on that.

the serial number is two places - the tag on the timing cover and etched into the block on the firewall side of the #1 cylinder (usually hard to read...). SO, sounds like you got the right number.
