Default Engine Serial Number Woes

So I've almost compiled the parts list to get the Turbo Wagon on the road. The timing belt looks great but I'm not sure what's been replaced so begrudgingly I'm buying the whole kit.

Problem is for the life of me I can't find the engine serial number. The sticker on the timing belt cover is gone. And the stamp on the engine can't be seen, it's dirty and covered by a steel line, I can't even get my hand in there to clean it.

Does anybody have an idea how I can get the serial number for this engine? So I can get the right timing belt on there. It's an 850 Turbo built Oct. 1993.

Thanks
Shawn

Good idea, except I still can barely see it. I've looked at pictures online, and it looks like the thing should be in plain sight. But not so.

Thanks, I got it clean. I can see the numbers 1814 with the first 1 directly under the B from the B523T above. My question is that if the engine were serial number 1814, would it be lined up with the B, or would it more to the right?

I assume it's unlikely, but all I can see is 1814, the rest is out of view.

Thanks
Shawn

So just to idiot proof myself, I'm good to get a timing belt kit that says "from engine #131155"?

there are 3 ways to get the engine serial number - 1) look for the sticker with the bar code on the timing belt cover and read the 6 digit number (easy) 2) look on the block towards the firewall (hard) 3) give a Volvo tech buddy your VIN. (super easy once you find a tech buddy....) I keep a picture of my VIN and various plates/stickers in my photo gallery. Comes in handy when shopping for parts. Here's a pic of the sticker for my 95 850T (proud owner of 1995 engine #304309 )
