Default General Grabber AT2 on my '04 XC70

Hey guys! First of all, I'm brand new to this forum, so... wazzup ****as

Secondly, I wanna get some decent bigger off road/snow tires for my '04 XC70. I've seen several people with General Grabber AT2s on their XCs, and I really like the way they look - and I've also seen nothing but awesome reviews for the tires. Here's the issue - I've gone to several tire retailer sites, but almost all of them give me the middle finger when I try to find a set that fits my car, which is strange considering I've seen like 2-3 XC70s ('03-'07 body style) with those tires. One thing I've noticed, though, is that the majority of these have Tellus wheels, while I have a set of Xenias on mine. Does that make a difference? Aren't they the same size?

Secondly, I wanna get a set of mudflaps/splash guards, front and rear if possible. Any pointers?

Sorry if I rambled. Coffee and ADHD don't go well together.

What size wheels and tires do you currently have on this 04 XC70? I think the standard base wheels are 16" and the standard tire is 215/65-16.

According to this http://accessories.volvocars.com/en-...#section_wheel both Tellus and Xenia are 7" x 16" and both are listed for the XC70.

TireRack does have the General Grabber AT2 in 215/65-16. An explanation about this tire suggests that "AT2" is a family of tires. The particular one available at TireRack in 215/65-16 states "Not rated for severe snow". Do not attempt to put a tire on your XC70 larger than 215/65-16. There would be no benefit and larger ones might rub on the inside of the front wheel wells when the wheels are near lock to one side or the other.

Tire dealers is Texas may not think of Volvos in general as requiring or benefiting from all terrain tires, and that is why they may think these are not suitable for your XC70. If so, they are misguided and reacting out of ignorance, which is not surprising for Texas. N.B. I'm a native Texan and live in Dallas.

I am running 215/70/16 Geolanders on my 02 XC no issues next set will be 225/75/16.. the sites are telling you kiss off because it is not a default size for the car... You just have to search the tire size you want and find it in the Grabber AT2

Both of these tire sizes are larger diameter at the tread than the specified tire 215/65-16. What do you hope to gain by doing this? The 215/70 you have on now is slightly larger, but the 225/75 would be a lot larger; you might have significant interference.

215/65-16 is 27.0 inch diameter

215/70-16 is 27.9 inch dia at tread so 3.3% larger

225/75-16 is 29.3 inch dia at tread so 8.5% larger

Addition: The tire diameter of 29 inches at the tread is what is used on the XC90 not the XC70, e.g. 235/65-17 is the base tire for the XC90, dia at tread = 235/25.4 x 2 x 0.65 + 17 = 29.0 inch; also used is 235/60-18, dia at tread = 235/25.4 x 2 x 0.60 + 18 = 29.1 inch.

Note however that if the 225/75-16 would not interfere with suspension components or the wheel wells, it would give an extra 1 inch of ground clearance. This would raise the center of gravity and might make emergency swerving on the highway kinda scary. Might. I don't really know. I know I would stick with the specified tire size 215/65-16, but you seem to have shown that 215/70s work just fine.
