Default Getting a clanking sound at 10 MPH

The sound I am hearing comes from the front-end possibly driver-side but sounds more like directly under the center of the car. It is hard to describe but it is a metallic clank...sort of like thesound when you run over a utility hole cover. It only happens once per ignition start and the car has to accelerate past 10 mph. It occurs independent of the transmission shifting. Any thoughts?

Default RE: Getting a clanking sound at 10 MPH

Well, for anyone who is interested, I found the answer to my problem. I spoke not only with two technicians from two different dealerships, but also asked the question on another forum. It seems this und is completely normal. It is caused by the ABS unit doing a self check. The computer and ABS unit are programmed to do a selfcheck of the system after the car is started and reaches 10-12 MPH for the first time. It will only do the check after the car is started after being shut off for 30 minutes or more.

I was also told that some cars make the sound a bit louder than others during the check, but to be more worried if I DIDN'T hear the sound (ABS not working properly)

Hope this helps someone else in the future,

Glenn
