Hi, new guy here trying to help a co-worker out. She recently bought an 01 XC70 with 90K miles. We've noticed that the hazards will flash randomly for several seconds at a time, then quit. The car is always parked and locked when this happens. The horn doesn't go off, so it doesn't seem to be the alarm. The battery hasn't acted like it's being inappropriately drained thus far. Have searched the archives of this and other Volvo forums, but haven't come across a similar complaint.

Sounds like a relay or switch going bad, but would like hear from folks that may have had a similar experience. Any simple diagnostics we can run thru before taking it in? The fix-it options are limited locally: one dealer and just a couple of independents, and nobody that does Volvos exclusively. Thanks in advance.

 

I will bet the alarm siren is bad. It is kind of like a module.
