Help!! Anyone change a head gasget on XC?

Default Help!! Anyone change a head gasget on XC?
Looks like my overheat problem put some water in the oil and white smoke out the tailpipe. Means either replacing the head gasget (best case) or the entire head if it is warped too much.
Anyone have an estimated cost for a garage to do this?
Anyone done it themselves, got any advice?

Garage about 2 to 3K depending on how bad it is.
