Inadequate Towing Capability? 2016 Volvo XC70 Platinum T5
I've been trying to find caravans/campers that my 2016 XC70 is capable of towing safely and not invalidate my insurance here in the US. It seems that most ifoif nottnot all of the 16ft+ campers sold here in the US (such as the Airstream Nest) have a too high towball weight (hitch weight) for my Volvo. The Nest, for example, has a trailer weight of ~3400 lbs (OK for my Volvo) but a hitch weight of ~350lbs which is NOT Ok for my Volvo which has a max towball weight of 98kg . I recall when I lived in England 30 years ago regular family cars including Volvos towing good sized caravans with no problem. Here in the USA it seems you need to have a truck or SUV to tow a camper/caravan. What's going on? Any help would be appreciated - especially from Volvo XC70 owners who have direct experience of successfully towing a camper, even if small (I'm OK with a 16ft camper).
