Default Seat belt locking up!

I own a '98 XC70. A few months back, I had the back seats folded flat for a few weeks. When I went to open them up, the driver side seat belt locked up, so no one could use it. It now comes and goes. I can not make sense of it. Someone sitting in that seat can use if for a few days to a couple of weeks. Then one day you get in and the belt is locked up. Are there any simple cures? Or am I back to the Volvo repair shop and have it fixed?

Did the plastic tab that holds the Latch break?

I should calify. The seatbelt locks up, so you can not even get it to the latch, like when you hit the brakes. Does this make sense?

What I meant is if you look at one of the other seatbelts when it is retracted the Latch stops on a little plastic peice. Sometimes they break off allowing the seatbelt to retract to car causing it to lock up.

The little plastic tab is still there. It locks up either way. Whether the plastic tab is out or sometimes goes in.

Then I would say the seatbelt is going bad.

Thanks.

Is this a do-it-yourself job? Or are there any special tools and skills need to change the seatbelt?

Since it is the one mounted in the Rear seat it is a pain in the neck to do.
You have to take apart half of the seat to get to it to replace it.
You also have to buy all new clips for putting everything back together.

My mom has a 2000 s80 2.9, this happens in her car too.

Someone could be sitting in the seat with the belt on a it locks up.
