OK all, got a new (used) Volvo V70 xc with 164000 on it yesterday and brought it home (private sale) and it started fine when I picked it up. Brought it home and statrted fine all day. After sitting over night the battery seems to drain and with a jump pak it starts right back up back shut it off and let it sit, we get a noise under the steering wheel of like a buzzing sound and it won't start just a drained battery. Put the pack on it, starts right up. I did put a tester on the battery and it reads 13.5 on the dc side. Any ideas?????

Sound like you need a new battery. The buzzing sound....is it a buzzing sound or more like a fan turning at a very high speed. Not sure if the V70 has it but my car has a blower fan in behind the dash to cool the circuits back there it normally runs for a few minutes after shut off.

It has a new Delco battery in it and it's charging or seems to be. Let the car run for 45 minutes this morning and shut it off, tried to start it again and nothing but click click click. Put the pack on it and it starts right back up. Wonder if the battery is junk???

Sounds like the new battery is bad. Return it for a new one.

sounds like a bad battery. Seems like the alternator is okay because it continues to run even after you have drained the battery.

If you have a meter check and see if the volts increase at the battery while running the RPM's up.

If you are going to change the battery make sure you follow the right proceedure. Its important to let the car sit for a while before disconnecting the battery. The ECM may lose memory of some functions if you do it right after turning the car off.
