Our 99 XC lost a belt tensioner, throwing the timing belt and bending some valves, of course. We had a mechanic replace all the valves, have the head machined, install new timing belt, water pump, cam and crank seals,etc. The car now runs great...EXCEPT.....

when you FIRST start it, the idle "surges", and if you put it in gear it immediately dies. If you rev the car up to about 2000 rpms and hold it there for 2 or 3 minutes, it will idle just fine and run just fine once it is put in gear.

I have removed the MAF sensor and cleaned it, but beyond that I am at a loss as to what to try next. Any ideas would be helpful. OH...the car is not throwing any codes, so......???

PLEASE for some suggestions.....mama is drivin' me nuts to get her car running good again-LOL!!!
