Talking Stumped....abs/tracs lights

I was all set to send off my abs module to have rebuilt on my 98 V70XC that I just recently purchased, due to the abs/tracs light coming on and staying on.....when I noticed something very peculiar. I have checked it repeatedly the last few days and keep coming up with the same thing....here it is:

If I start the car (while it is in Park) withOUT putting my foot on the brake pedal....the abs/tracs light comes on and goes right off (as they should). However........if I put my foot ON the brake pedal and start the car....the lights stay on. We have had inclement weather recently and I could tell that the system is working correctly...SOOOOO.........

Is this still a condition that requires having the module rebuilt, or is there a different problem I need to check into???

The brake pedal sensor might be bad. That is the sensor in the booster under the hood.

OK. Can just the sensor be replaced or do you have to replace the entire booster?

You can replace the sensor. Some on the Forum have pulled them apart and fixed them as well. I have never done it though.

OK....well, I usually order my parts from FCP Groton. Do you think they would carry something like that, and if so, is it simply called a "brake pedal sensor"?

Thanks a bunch, by the way!!!

I tried looking it up on Vadis and cannot find it.
Make sure you actually have one. You might also want to have the code pulled to see what it is.

Hmmmm...OK! By the way...the ONLY code that throws is the "P0108" code. I have spoke with you about it before, and you mentioned that I probably need to replace the barometric pressure sensor......trying to find one at a salvage yard now. Could the two problems somehow be related, in your opinion??

I doubt they are related.

If you can get the ABS codes pulled then the light is on.

I'm sorry, maybe I am not understanding what you are saying...what I mean is that the check engine light stays on, but when I pull the codes thru the OBDII, the "only" code that is coming up is P0108. .......sorry...don't mean to wear out your nerves on this one...

You will need to have the ABS codes pulled. Most likely the scanner you have does not read ABS codes. You need to find someone that can pull the ABS codes.
