Thermostat repair...
Hi everyone,
My husband just tried replacing the thermostat on my 2000 xc70 using a tutorial he found on this site. After completing the repair he started up the car and it is now leaking coolant when the car is running. This wasn't happening prior to the repair attempt. Could anyone suggest some things we could check next...we are really noobs when it comes to this stuff and it was stated that the repair was a simple one, but now it seems we've made it worse. Any suggestions?
Thanks so much,
Kimberly

Did the new thermostat have the o-ring on it already?
Alot of auto parts stores don't sell the o-ring with the thermostat.
If you look at the old one there is a black ring looking thing around the outside edge. Make sure the new one has one on it as well.

Thanks for response. We went back and took the thermostat back out and saw that the o-ring we bought for it wasn't attached to the lip of the thermostat. My husband had just set it on top of the t-stat. Well live and learn. Anyway the repair is working now and the car warms up to the 3 o'clock position and stays there. Thank you again for verifying our mistake.
Thanks
Kimberly
