Default V70 T5 or XC70??

Hi all,

New to this forum. I'm thinking about buying my first Volvo. I'm not looking for a 4X4. I just need a good wagon. I'm looking at a used 2006 V70 T5, 6 speed manual transmission with 52000km or a 2005 XC70 automatic with about 68000km. My question: wich one is the most reliable car? Is the manual trasmission a good bet against broken transmission? Witch one is hardest on gas, on the highway?

Is the T5 a good car or am I looking at expensive maintenance and repairs in the future. I want to keep the car for a long time.

Should I go with a regular V70?

Thanks for your advices,

cad

If you don't need the AWD I would get the T5. You'll have the same issues with either, but the T5 has one less differential. I was faced with the same decision in Dec, and went with a T5 and love it. I wish mine were manual though. You probably get better MPG with the V70 as well. Unless you have your heart set on the styling of the XC70, the V70 is where it's at.

Thanks.

Can you be more specific about the usual "issues" I should expect?

What's the year of your T5? How many MPG do you get on the Hwy?

Thanks,

I've got a 2002 with 67k miles on it, which differs ever so slightly than the ones you are looking at. I get 20.5mpg average. That's with 70% city, 30% highway driving. On trips to the cabin I pull about 25-26mpg if I keep it under 70. 80mph drops sharply to around 20mpg. I haven't had to do any service on mine in the few months I've owned it, so I couldn't tell you of any quirk. My thoughts would be that if there are more mechanical parts on a car, the chances of something needing service will increase. The XC70 has one differential, a driveshaft, and two axles more than a V70...

hi , deffinatly the t5 , forget about the awd , if you want that setup buy an audi A4 ,A6 ! iv'e got a 1999 v70 xc and although i loved it , it now spends its time on axle stand with a knackerd awd system , wich is costing me more to repair than the cars worth! it's so expensive i bought a £500 run around till i can finnish repairing the volvo.
