'00 v70xc se with 93k miles

i have had the recent occasion to break the tires loose. i seem to be getting a "ratcheting" noise while the tires are slipping. once i gain traction, the noise is gone. the awd seems to be fine as i have confirmed power is transferred from the front to rear. does the vc make a noise while engaging? i would tend to think it is the vc over the bevel gear. i did a search without much luck. any thoughts, ideas, input, etc?

 

Does your car have traction control?

If so I bet that is the noise you heard.

Did the gas pedal seem to fight you when you heard the noise?

 

i'm not sure. i will have to check it again. shouldn't be a problem as the driveway is an ice rink right now. i will report back.
