Default THE VOLVO "CLICK" NOISE

Is it normal for my XC70 to make a clicking sound when first pulling out or backing up? I've heard that this is common on Volvo's and some liken it to some type of torque on the axel splines, thus making them click when you first pull out and more so when backing up. My V40 would do this when I shifted into reverse and gased it just a bit and the metallic click sound could be heard just once.

The other thing I've noticed too is that when slowing down and the engine is still fairly cold, the tranny tends to clunk upon downshifting into first gear. Almost like the torque convertor is un-locking itself due to the low speed. Normal????? Otherwise, shifting is flawless. Car has always been serviced at a Volvo dealer but not sure if the fluid was ever drained.

Thanks.

All software up to date?
Yes they are pretty common to have the Axle ping.If the Dealer tried to fix it they will remove the axles and install metal glue on the splines and let it sit overnight to dry.

Tech,

MY wifes XC70 has had that "ping" since she got it three years ago. Every once in awhile she bugs me about it and I try to explain that it is a quirk with some Volvo's, but she would never believe me. I let her read through this post, and now she says she is not going to worry about it anymore. THANKS!!

Glenn
