Shifter handle making click click click noise in reverse
Hi! New member here.
Just bought a 1991 240 with automatic trans. Two problems that may be related. first problem is shifter indicator is out of tune with the actual gear transmission is in. Thinking an adjustment is needed.
The more concerning problem is when the car is in reverse and moving backwards the shifter handle makes noise and moves. But only when moving and seem a little better if I pull back on handle a bit. Best way I can describe it is it sounds like park pin that keeps the vehicle from moving in park is trying to engage as you back up, kind of a click click click sound and you can hear and feel it in the shifter handle. Hoping it may be a simple problem that is associated with the adjustment of the transmission indicator. Searched the forums for a while and didn't see anyone else with a similar problem.
Anybody have a thought about what it may be or how to fix it? I'm about ready to jack it up and start making adjustments with no knowledge about what I'm doing. You know trial and error.

Just wanted to update the thread. I jacked up the car and started looking around. Seems the lower under car part of the shifter handle was rubbing on the drive shaft when the car was in reverse. Not sure of the reason yet it may have been slightly bent. I'm going to check the motor and trans mounts to make sure they are not the cause before bending parts for clearance.
Edit:
Both motor mounts and trans mount were shot and broken. Replaced them and every thing is good.
