Will a b5244t3 (01+) swap in place of a b5244t (00)?

Default Will a b5244t3 (01+) swap in place of a b5244t (00)?

It seems the b5244t3's are more readily available (and cheaper) than the b5244t's. Would the b5244t3 from an 01+ work in a 00 v70 xc or are there variances that would cause issues?
My car has a snapped timing belt and hopefully later today I will know the extent of damage. I may just swap a low mileage head on to the current block (190k+) but if there is piston damage a motor swap seems more economical.
Any and all info is appreciate fellas!

It might you just need to make sure the new motor is not dual VVT.

Understood. The pistons had numerous indentations caused by the valves but nothing detrimental as far as I can tell. I used a polishing wheel on a right angle die grinder and took the sharp edges off. I then followed up with a wet sand (400 grit and wd-40).
The pistons cleaned up nicely. I don't expect any hot spots leading to preignition.
I plan on picking up a used head and going that route. Wish me luck
