I have a 04 XC70. We drove to church today and the car was fine. Afterwards we walked back to car got the kids in and the Key will not turn. The steering column is not locked up; the electrical system turns on (lights, radio, etc.). I have tried to rock the car and crank the wheel. Nothing is working. Any ideas?

 

Sounds like the lock assembly went bad on you. Pretty common.

 

So I went back to my car with the two things that can pretty much fix anything, Duct tape, and WD40. Why the Duct Tape you ask, no reason just thought it was a good time to put a new roll in the wagon. WD40, well I sprayed a little onto the key and put it into the ignition. After a few light wiggles the key turned and she started up! Not sure if that the the right anwser or way to slove my problem but it worked and got me back to my Mother's Day honey-do-list. It will eventually mess up again. But glad it worked.
