Default Xc70 running really hot

Bought a 2006 xc70 seems like a great car but it has 175,000 already changed plugs and coil packs but it running hot hasn’t went pasts the half way point yet? I’ve yet to see the fan kick on only when I turn on the AC is this normal? I’ve heard the 2.5 turbo does run a litttle hot but this seems a bit much? Coolent is full and clean any suggestions?

Need further information. Why do you think it is running hot? The xc70 should have a temperature gauge on the dash and normal is to see the indicator on the gauge basically vertical (straight up) (right in the middle of the gauge range).

Your description of the fan that isn't coming on as expected is the fan that forces air through the radiator, right?

Default Hot xc70

being that this is my first Volvo not sure of what’s normal? The engine is still very hot after the car has set for a couple hours also heats up very fast. The temp gauge doesn’t have degrees on it but it stays just past half way. Not sure about the fan “the one in front of the radiator” never comes on while the car is running? All the car I’ve owned previously a fan would kick on once the car reached a certain temp maybe nothing to worry about but I just want this car to last for me

have you tested the engine coolant temp sensor? If that is off it can mess with the temp gauge. Also if you swap that out, its a good time to replace the thermostat and the reservoir cap - I'm not sure what triggers the radiator fan in your model but I believe its different from the AC. Google around for similar posts on this topic - this has come up from time to time.

I don't think that the Volvo engine fan comes on until around 215 degrees. Most of the time it is on when the AC compressor is running to pull air across the condenser coil.

BTW - if the temperature gauge is reading midpoint that is normal.
