'05 XC90 centre console cupholder lid broken
Hi. I'm a new owner of a 2005 XC90 2.5t. I bought one of the few I saw that didn't have a broken cupholder lid, and then within a week of owning the vehicle broke the hinge!
I downloaded a PDF on how to pull the cupholder out, but it's unclear about whether or not I have to remove the whole centre console area around the shifter to do it. The document says to "Remove the mug holder insert by releasing the hooks on the underside of the center console." It appears that I have to remove the whole area around the shifter in order to do this, but I thought I'd ask before attempting it again.
I'm game for doing my own work, but on the other hand I'm very clumsy and as liable to break off some little tab somewhere as I am to fix the problem. Is this something that can be done by a klutz, or am I better off paying the dealer $$$ to do the work?
Thanks,
- Andrew.

I just pulled my whole console out the other day to fix some squeeking that i had going on. In order to remove the cup holders you have to remove the upper part of the console (or atleast remove the screws so you can get your hands up under it.) On either side on the botom there are two clips that you can push inwards to release the cup holders.
The shifter bezel (wood grain part) will pop off if you carefully pry it up. then you can see the 4 screws that hold the main console top in place. you also have to remove the rear pen holder thing by gently prying up also, to access the other 2 screws.
