08 XC90 Hard Shift into Reverse
Hello all,
recently my 08 XC90, on occasion, will shift hard when shifting into reverse. It doesn't do it all the time, mostly does it after it's been idle for a bit, even though sometimes it does it right after I turn it on.
Has anyone experienced this?
I appreciate the help,
AR

hard shifting can be caused by an incorrect transmission fluid level, dirty fluid or a weak solenoid. I'd start by checking the level and the color of your transmission fluid (best to google for the correct procedure on measuring both cold and hot fluid levels. If the level seems off, look around for any signs of weeping, spotting etc. When you have the dipstick out, wipe it on a clean, white paper towel. If the fluid is reddish brown, great! if brownish ok, if black and spells burnt, well, the damage to the tranny has already happened. You can also try a drain/fill to freshing the fluid (some line of thought is to not bother with a drain/fill if its already black since the bits of material in the fluid is aiding the friction coefficient so read up on that topic as well.
