Default 2.5T AWD vs V8

Hello!
I'm purchasing a XC90 2.5T AWD; and have a few days to make any changes to the SUV. (I have the option to upgrade to V8) My question is this... Will the 2.5T 'handle' the load of a family of 5? I will never tow anything with this SUV. Just my family & luggage for our occasional vacation trips. I've heard great reviews from other 2.5T owners; but the more information the better! I will be using the XC90 as my primary 'car'. Shopping & hauling the kids around... and occasional vacations. But I plan to keep this SUV for many years to come.... so I want to buy the best one.
What's your thoughts on the 2.5T vs the V8?????

The 2.5T should do you fine. The V8 would be just an awsome thing to have.

2.5 seemed under powered to me, so we bought V-8. You get a lot more as a "std. equipment",so the price difference is about 2K for a comparable equipped XC90- maybe less w/ these gas prices. I'd check the price and compare options.

Thank you both for the information!
I'm purchasing this Volvo from Military sales; and unfortunatly the price is a lot more for the V8 vs. the 2.5T. Equally equipt. also;( the V8 comes w/18' wheels.. I don't like them & wood inlays & wood steering wheel extra.) I hate to pay the extra $4,200. Seems to be too much to pay for the V8 when I'll never tow anything.
My main concern was the weight of the XC90 with the 5cyl. Then to add the kids & luggage; I don't want to buy this one now & have motor troubles later because the motor is too small for the daily weight pull.
Thanks again!

Your worried about weight and pull?
Haha

My dad has had Volvo wagons for years and years. We have gone to the beach and on many other vacations with only three people, the leftover rear seat and the whole trunk filled to the brim. We had no problems.

I know you will be fine.

Go with the V8, you won't be disappointed and the vehicle will last much longer.

Since when did petrol engines last longer than diesel engines?

Well, we have purchased the V8!

We decided that since we wanted this SUV to last for 8+ years; that the V8 would never leave us wishing we would had 'just gotten' the bigger motor. Plus if we are able to be stationed in Florida; we may get a set of ski doo's ! I'd need the extra power to pull those.

Thank you all for the information!!
