Default 2003 XC90 Starts and Dies seconds later

Hey,

If you want some history on my car, check out this thread:

https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...acement-87270/

Short story, I had the transmission rebuilt. Been running great for about 3,000 miles so far. Love it. Great vehicle.

Wife went on a short trip this last weekend. Car ran great on the 2+ hour drive each way, but was gutless on a large and very steep hill while almost home. When she hit town it felt fine, but struggled a little on another hill while almost home.

Went to check it last night. It will now start, run for a few seconds, and die. If I stick with the throttle I can keep it going, but it's difficult. I had a CEL light with the code P0446, and my wife said it cleared itself during the trip.

So I tested the fuel pump. I am getting about 50PSI at the fuel rail. Dang it, I thought it was the pump. I hear nominal is 60, but it doesn't seem to drop in the seconds it runs. Now I'm not sure where to look next. Got a big trip coming up for the 4th so I need to get it running as it's the only thing big enough for our whole family. Any ideas?

Alex

Just for fun, you could unhook the purge. I wonder if a big vacuum leak would cause this. The flow in the purge line, whatever it may be, does not go through the MAF, at least I don't think so.

A couple of other details. My wife says she smells gas every once in a while. Not very strong. But I do smell gas in the garage from time to time as well.

Also I disconnected the MAF sensor on a hunch... and it runs now. Seems to run fine, granted with a CEL.

Oh, and I misread the gauge while looking through the windshield and under the hood. It's actually reading 40 PSI.

So my question is what is the acceptable range for fuel pressure, and should I start with the MAF sensor?
