Unhappy 2004 Cx90 CAMSHAFT SENSORS,

Hello to Everyone,
I have a 2004 Cx90 t6. I am replacing the two camshaft sensors. I had no trouble replacing the one in front. Can someone tell me what I need to do in order to be able to get to the other sensor? It looks like it's upside down and very hard to reach in order to put in the new one. Thank's for the help.

You need to remove the upper engine mount and bracket if I remember correctly. It's a waste of time, you don't have a problem with your cam sensors.

Thank you for the help ES6T. The engine just stopped running so I hooked up the computer to troubleshoot. And the code said it was the camshaft sensor. I was told that there are two of them? If so I was hoping someone could tell me how I get to the one in the rear under the vacuum lines.

Been very cold and snowy here. I have not been able to check the timing belt yet. ES6T Just have a few questions. Does the t-6 have one or two cam sensors? I ask because I don't have a service manual. I do see what looks like another one towards the inner firewall were the manifold bents around. Looks like it is upside down? And not so easy to get to if it is? The other question I have is can I see if the timing belt is ok by pulling back the plastic cover on one side? I have never worked on a Volvo before. If the timing belt has broken will that show up as a cam sensor is bad on the computer Sorry for all the questions? Thank you for the help it is greatly appreciated.

There are two cam sensors. I've been working on Volvo's for a long time and have never needed to replace a cam sensor for a cam sensor fault code on anything newer than a 1998 model.

A code for something does not mean that sensor is bad. It means there is a problem with the signal from that sensor. The ECM knows what position the engine should be in at all times. When the timing belt breaks or the tensioner fails, the cams don't turn when the ECM knows they should. So it sees the position from the cam sensors as an error.

I have a 2004 Volvo xc90 I noticed an oil leak on the passenger side and took it to a shop they told me it was the oil pump gaskets (crankshaft seal) so I printed the specialty tool and replaced it after fixing it I tried starting the car it started but it began turning over very slow then shut off no check engine light came on so I waited bit and tried to start again the check engine light came on and produced a p0345 code I was going to change the cam position sensor but after reading this thread I'm not so sure that's the best course of action any advice

Cam sensors rarely go bad. Don't think I've every had to replace (a bad) one in the 1999+ cars.

The engine ran, and you touched the front seal - taking the timing belt off and back on. Now the car won't run ------ It's not your cam sensor.

The code is probably there because the cam sensor signal does not match up with the crank position signal - in other words the cams are not timed correctly. If you still think the sensor magically went bad while you were working on the car - test it BEFORE replacing it.

Sorry for your troubles
