Default 2005 XC90 CD massage reads 'DECK ERROR'

What may have caused this? Should I try to pull the CD changer apart? Is there any tips to doing it without damaging the covers etc? Help anyone Thanks in advance!!

www.bba-reman.com will rebuild your CD changer for $300.00. I got a quote from them and will be sending it to them.

Did you find out how to solve the "deck error" message. I put 6 cd's in and in 10 minutes had a message in the text box that read "low battery", I assumed it was the battery in the vehicle? The next morning the text box read "deck error". My husband disconnected the battery and now it doesn't reconize their are any CD's in the player at all?

He should not have done that. 6 disc changers tend to try to eject all the cd's at the same time when powered up, thus breaking, this is not limited to only volvo. A $300 repair is a very good price, volvo sells them for ~$450 new. Just a few screws and a ribbon cable to swap. They will tell you it needs to be coded to thw car and maybe in some rare instances it may be true, but it should start working right out of the box.

I just put a new one in my XC90, after having the same issues as you. It read deck error, and kept trying to shuffle the CDs, bu was unable to. The Volvo Dealer installed one for me and Volvo covered 50% of the cost. The part was $~500 and labor was approx $100. I paid less than $300 all said and done.

Why did your dealer pay half? Is your XC 90 new? My dealer want's $900.00 to fix it.

No, mine is an 04 with 65k on it. I told the dealer i felt that the cost was extremely high and that this was a common failure. They admitted it was a big issue, and they requested assistance from volvo. Call your dealer and ask for Goodwill assistance - You will be surprised what Volvo will cover if you just ask (nicely).

Good luck guys with your volvos, I just traded mine in for a Chrysler. I was getting tired of all the repairs I had to do on the XC90, the costs were killing me. I have been a Volvo guy for over 20 years but it seems like they aren't built like they use to be.

I won't leave the forum, Still a Volvo guy at heart. But I bought a Dodge Magnum RT (HEMI) AWD. The Magnum and the 300C are based on the Mercedies E Class platform. What an awesome car, 360HP of fun.

Any luck having Volvo cover 1/2 of the cost for replacing the CD player?
