We had the vehicle in the body shop for 2 weeks. We picked it up & driving down the road the oil pressure warning came on. Went back to the shop, they of course said it was unrelated to their work. They said we needed an oil pump and recommended changing the timing belt & water pump, which we agreed. After 2 weeks the shop called and said they test drove the car..it lost power & was blowing white smoke. They said the motor is blown..too much stress on the motor and lots of sludge. Do we get a used engine? Got a price of $1250 & $1200 labor. Or do we get rid of the car? We got rid of our 2004 in January for similar issue. Any suggestions.

 

if the shop just did body work i would agree it isn't related to oil pressure loss. but i would question whether the engine was already screwed before they did all the work after that. but probably no way to tell that now. that sounds like a good price for used engine & labor. getting rid of the car with no engine, you'll get almost nothing for it and you'd be better off fixing and selling if you want to get rid of it.

 

So, what did you end up doing? $1250 for a used engine is a good price. Where did they source the engine from?
