Default 2006 Volvo XC90 Fuel Pump Issue

Hello,

I have a major issue with my 2006 Volvo XC90.

I replaced my fuel pump a month or two ago based upon recommendation from a mechanic. Did not end up being my starting issue but did end up being a major issue. Since I have replaced the Fuel Pump I have major problems. When the fuel tank gets to about 1/4 a tank the pump appears to run out of gas when going around curves. I have put 3 different fuel pumps in it a new fuel control module and new fuel preasure sensor and 2 fuel filters. It runs find when first started but then after a little while it sounds like the fuel pump could be running out of gas in the canister make a loud hissing noise. The car continues to run. I also assume the line going to the split tank on the drivers side should have gas going through it and it does not.

I have had a mechanic work on it and nothing any better.

What am I missing? I am desperate for help.

Does this car have a fuel pump relay? Anyone ever had this issue?

Did you replace the whole pump assembly or just get a generic aftermarket pump?

Are the sending units the two motors in the pump?

The pump sounds like it is surging after a while.

I can take the two pumps out of the canister and look and see if the screen is clogged. Ill check and make sure it is not tomorrow. The fuel tank looks really clean and I have had my hands all in it and havent felt anything.

I am completely baffled with this.

By the way thank you for your reply's and your help. It is appreciated more than you will ever know

we had a customer who did the same thing. I warranted 2 fuel pumps before they found out the fuel tank was contaminated clogging the pick up screens

Ok so I just looked up the sending unit. If that unit is bad on the drivers side will that cause the pump not to send fuel properly? I will order that tomorrow if you think that is the case. I also noticed that (Tim Bauerle www.VolvoWholesalePartsDirect.com Parts Hotline: (800)234-5394) you must sell these parts. I would love to purchase this from you if you think that is the case.

yes - that is what I do. Your fuel gauge might be lying to you if the other sending unit is bad. It's pretty cheap. I'll be in the office between 8 & 5 Cali time tomorrow.

Cheers

Make sure the hose from the pump side to the drivers side isn't kinked or damaged

I wondered about that being kinked but have no way to tell? I am not a real big fan of the design.

Is there a way to tell if it is routed properly. All I did was pull a cable through to get it out the other side and then back. All arrows are pointing to the back of the car on the sending unit and the fuel pump
