2006 XC90 2.5T - sudden issue - won't move
Hi all - hoping someone can give me some hints as to what may be wrong.
2006 XC90 2.5T was operating fine today. One of my girls just started it up tonight and the car would not move in reverse or move forward after putting it in gear. The car was parked on an incline.
When I got in it, the gear shift does go into every gear. However, it doesn't have that normal feeling of the engine engaging the gears - it seems to be in neutral. If you give it gas, the engine revs and after a few seconds, the car will limply accelerate forward for about a foot or two. Then basically stop moving. This happens in any gear including reverse.
I got the off the incline driveway and let it sit level for about 30-45 minutes. It seems to do 'better' maybe get four or five feet in either forward or reverse. However, this time there seemed to be some sort of shaking(?) or vibration coming from someplace that seems under the engine.
Sorry total noob when it comes to cars.
Any one have any suggestions?
Thanks!
JT

So, got the car towed over to a highly rated transmission guy in the area. Basically the transmission is toast, and there were a list of other items that went wrong at the same time. Don't know about all the parts the guy was talking about, but I do know how much to get everything fixed - $4300 + tax. Getting a warranty of two years - so, I've got that going for me...
I pick up the car tomorrow and I'll document the stuff that went wrong -- hopefully the information would be useful for someone down the line.
Considering that I got the car used with 60K on it for 16K, and now it has 170K on it and i need to drop another 4K on it - I think I'm still coming out ahead. It'll be great to get another 100K out of it!
