Default HELP!!!! S40 won't move

Ok here is the story I have a 2001 volvo s40. I had traveled on the highway and in stop and go traffic and at a stop sign I stopped. Turned onto the street and then the car just rev's with a **** **** **** ****. Ok so I get it over to my girlfriends mom's house, jack it up, it is the yoke of the passenger halfshaft broke. Ok so we change out both sides. We get done I back it down the driveway, let it sit cause it was time to eat. Then I go to leave and I get 7 houses down the road and it just rev's again. Any gear you put it in you go nowhere. When select park it makes a wierd noise but still no go. Right now we are thinking Tranny fluid. Anybody else have any other suggestions? And if the fluid how did it leak?

Just starting to get frustrated and we really don't have the money to take it to the shop.

Thanks

Matt

If you rev it does the speedometer move?
If so there is still an axle problem.

Ok found the issue...the axle slipped out of the tranny but now I get a vibration at High Revs. Think I am going to get my tranny flushed.

Dont waste your money on the flush unless its time to do it anyway.Your problem is the bearing on the shaft which is to hold the shaft in place and aligned secured by a clamp on the sub-frame.When this bearing let go the shaft it will slide out of the tranny causing your loss of drive.Chances are that you missed this when you just pushed the shaft back and now the bearing doesnt sit right or its out of the clamp completely leaving the shaft unsupported so it goes out of alignment.Unfortunately there is nothing to hold the bearing on the shaft not even a ring so if you got an aftermarket cheap shaft you have a good chance that this is problem. Here you can read about this issue with pictures.Hope that you didnt forget to put the clamp back on the bearing.

Ok here is what I can figure out....I know the bearing is in place and we did use the clamp. my thing is when I hit the gas it does seem like the passenger side is the one doing all the vibration and the second thing is it tends to pull to the right when i am in the gas. But when I am coasting it drives straight. Would this still be the bearing???

OK so one thing you can check out really easy if you open up the hood.See if there is like 1/2" of the thicker section of the shaft sticks out from under the bearing just like you see it on the picture. The shaft could be half way out loosing contact surface inside the tranny.
Still didnt say if youv got the OEM replacement or an aftermarket axle. Its not uncommon that the aftermarket ones are faulty from the factory as most are not made new but re-newed.If the bearing checks out the chances are that youv got one of those and you have to get a new one.I always advise against the aftermarket ones and say to get a used OEM one from a breaker in good shape which cost the same but the difference is huge.

Ok I can check. And yes this is supposedly new from Advance Auto so Aftermarket. My thing is if it is loosing contact that would make sense.... but can i keep driving and just be good or should I stop driving. Just would be a huge inconvenience... But it does make sense cause if it is slipping the yes it would pull to the right....and my steering wheel acts like it is going through the blender at 65.

Thanks for you help really do appreciated. Never had to work on the volvo until now.
